Al Samra, nestled in the far north of Syria’s Latakia coast, is a hidden cove where the mountains seem to lean in and embrace the sea. The village rests in a narrow valley carpeted with pine and oak, their branches arching overhead to form green tunnels that open suddenly to the glittering Mediterranean. Here, waves crash against dark, mineral rich sands and rugged cliffs, while freshwater springs trickle down from the hillsides, feeding the lush vegetation year round. Its remoteness keeps it quiet and unspoiled, a place where the scent of salt and forest mingle, and where visitors can feel the rare meeting of wild beauty, cultural heritage, and cinematic charm — forever linked to its role as “Um al Tanafes al Fouqa” in the beloved Syrian series Dayaa Dayaa.
