Balloran Dam, completed in 1982 after construction began in 1977, rises 32 meters above the Shamerliya River in northern Latakia. With a storage capacity of 15.5 million cubic meters, it supplies drinking water to nearby villages, irrigates around 1,000 hectares of farmland, and supports fish farming. Yet beyond its engineering role, the dam is embraced by a breathtaking natural setting — dense pine forests blanket the surrounding mountains, their green slopes mirrored in the dam’s turquoise waters. Seasonal wildflowers dot the hillsides, and cool breezes drift through the valley, making it a serene stop for travelers heading toward Kassab or Al Bassa. The combination of human craftsmanship and magical nature makes Balloran Dam both a vital resource and a scenic jewel of the Latakia countryside.
