Jutting proudly into the Mediterranean just north of Latakia, Ras Ibn Hani is a headland where natural beauty and deep history meet. Once known as Ras al Fanar, this peninsula was home to a royal outpost of ancient Ugarit in the 14th–13th century BCE, complete with grand palaces, defensive walls, and workshops that cast bronze and copper ingots for trade across the ancient world. Over the centuries it saw the arrival of the Sea Peoples, the rise of Hellenistic Diospolis, and the ebb and flow of Roman and Byzantine life before an earthquake in 526 CE brought its final ancient chapter to a close. Today, Ras Ibn Hani blends archaeological intrigue with resort style leisure — sandy coves, rocky points, and sweeping sea views make it as inviting for a summer swim as it is for a journey back through three millennia of coastal history.
